The Faraja Centre needs your help to continue to take in victims of human trafficking and provide them with the opportunities to rebuild their lives.
If you are interested in supporting one of the girls of Faraja, there are three main sponsorship arrangements;
Sponsor a girl to complete a 1 year course at the Faraja Centre.
Sponsor a young woman with a child to complete a 1 year course at the Faraja Centre.
Sponsor a girl from the centre to return to secondary school.
The costs for the year long course at the Faraja Centre covers all of the following;
- Food
- School uniforms
- Bedding (for purposes of hygiene, each girl receives her own mattress and blanket each year)
- Mosquito nets
- Material for the cooking classes (ingredients and cooking equipment)
- Material for the tailoring classes (fabrics and sewing/tailoring equipment)
- Teacher's salaries
- Electricity and water at the centre
- Consumables, such as soap
Every sponsor will receive a photo of the young woman accompanied by a hand written letter and we will send you quarterly updates of the progress at the centre.
Sponsorships last for 12 months at which time we will contact you to discuss the options of further assistance for your sponsored young woman or the possibility of supoorting another girl. We see this as the best solution due to the fact that the needs of each individual is very different (ie some women may benefit best by returning to secondary school if the opportunity arises, whereas others may benefit more from assistance to set up a small business etc).
The extra money to sponsor a woman with a child covers the additional costs for accommodation due to the fact that the Faraja Centre provides private rooms for women with children as opposed to dorm accommodation for other students at the centre.

The latest statistic, from 2006 shows almost 45,000 children dropping out of primary school in Tanzania. The main causes for these drop out rates are an inability of the family to support school, uniform and material costs. A few of the girls who come to the Faraja Centre have been fortunate enough to attend one or two years of secondary school, but due to poverty or the effects of human trafficking, they have not been able to continue with their study.
In Tanzania, due to the costs of education, an examination is conducted at the end of Standard II (the equivalent of Grade 10 in Australia, Freshman year in the States and in the UK) in order to select the highest achievers who will receive government sponsorship to continue with their secondary school education. In most cases, families are unable to meet the costs of school fees, uniforms and materials and as such, if students do not pass the Standard II examinations they will inevitably be forced to drop out of school.
Education is undoubtedly the most successful method of fighting poverty all throughout the underdeveloped world and therefore sponsorship of one of the women from Faraja to return to secondary school is a fantastic contribution if you are able to afford the additional costs.
The main sponsors of young women at the Faraja Centre are shown below. Without the assistance of these amazing people, the Faraja Centre would not be able to operate.
